Luna’s New Knit Studio – from grunge to green September 9th, 2015

Luna Gallery Knit Showroom

Living the lush life in our NEW knit studio in Kew – with welcoming Winter flora and a leafy green outlook – bringing a fresh dynamic to our design and production process. … but how we loved those grungy back streets of Richmond … yet how we embrace the serenity and charm of Kew.
With an abundance of natural light and peaceful green surroundings, we are pretty sure we don’t actually miss the chaos, noise, parking problems and dreadful lighting of our previous beloved DUNGEON.
But our memory’s are fond – and a part of Luna history lives forever in Cremorne.
Embrace change – it is good for you – it creates new challenges – and then brings fresh, sustainable growth and evolution.

Richmond Ragtrade Blues June 20th, 2015

Richmond Ragtrade Industrial Icons

‘Have you seen the old signs, in the back streets of Richmond, more forgotten hero’s, for a world that doesn’t care’.
Sadly old signs and industry icons are all we have left these days, with local manufacture diminishing by the minute…second even!
But this Ragtrade industry icon is getting a glorious makeover thanks to Glasshaus Nursery.
Back in the old Ragtrade days – Richmond Laundry was our weekly go to for denim and wovens, and Vince del Brocco was the MASTER of washing and finishing knitted textiles. But sadly these businesses have been forced to close…and we have lost these great characters…the heart and soul of our industry…and with them the skills and expertise.
But our beloved local industry lives on – in signs, in icons, in memory and still in our passion and determination to create and produce knitwear and fashion locally.
‘Long Live Melbourne Manufacture’

The Heart of Knitwear Manufacture June 10th, 2015

Local Knit Manufacture leaves town

After 14 years – Luna is leaving Richmond – the grunge – the heart of knitwear manufacture Melbourne.
When we first arrived in 2001, the Slade Knitwear sign was still lit up and Cremorne was this unknown nook of creativity and mystery. So many amazing urban makers, young architects, artists, film makers, graphic designers … motor mechanics, printers, KNITWEAR manufacturers, quirky cafe’s, the Cherry Tree Hotel, some tree’s and great neighbours. From our balcony we had superb views to the City, the Botanical Gardens, across the river to South Yarra, the Nylex Sign, Slade Knitwear, the asbestos, the concrete and the urban skyline – bats and all.
So as the high rise takes over – the Queen of Cremorne departs.
